If you are a lover of books, authors, and interesting literary ephemera and are looking for something new to add to your collection (other than the obvious more books) you may want to check out the ever-growing postage stamp productions that can be found in nearly every corner of the world now.
I was never aware of just how many of these little gems there are dedicated to great writer’s and timeless literature until I came across an extraordinary collection in an online auction recently.
While many of these stamps are not that rare, or even very old for that matter, as I probed deeper in my web searches I was intrigued to find so many, and from so many different countries and regions of the world. Though I haven’t collected stamps since childhood, and only did so as a class project, I was inspired to start my own small collection of these literary icons which continues to multiply by the day.
If you are interested in beginning your own collection and are looking for a good place to start, the United States Postal Service began a terrific ongoing literary arts series in 1979 featuring such giants of the craft as Hemingway, Melville, Wharton, Steinbeck, Moore, T.S. Eliot, Robert Frost and many, many others. You can check them all out at the above link.
